Sarah Head Passes Away at 90

HEAD, Sarah VenableAge 90, fifty year resident of Nashville, passed away September 6, 2009. Preceded in death by her husband, Richard; parents, David L. and Joanna Corban Venable; brother, Burrell D. Venable and sister, Betty Jo Patterson. This gentle woman is survived by her son, David Roy; daughter, Pam and her husband, Jerry Thompson; son, Larkin and his wife Sybil; eight grandchildren, Andy Mathis and his wife Bridget, Matthew Head, Ben Mathis and his wife Stacy, Nathan, Natalie, Paul David, Lona Ruth and Morgan Head; two great-grandchildren, Colson and Sarah Mathis; her sister, Chaytor Nabors, and many loving nieces and nephews. Sarah and her family moved to Nashville from Dunwoody, GA in 1958 when Richard was transferred by Firestone. She taught at Antioch High School for twenty years and was a beloved member of the Glendale United Methodist Church for 50 years, where she served most days with her presence and gifts. There is no doubt that she will be just as dedicated in carrying on her work in the next chapter of her life. “If you need me, I’m at the church,” is a note she once wrote. And now we know how timeless and true those words are. Sarah spent the last year of her life at Whispering Pines Nursing Facility in Winnsboro, TX, where her sister, Chaytor, resides. As a final gift to others, she has donated her body to the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, TX. Sarah had a great, great life, a family that has loved her and always will, countless friends whose lives she has touched, and numerous students she has mentored. She left more memories than can be counted, and a love and trust in God that only He knows.
A Memorial service officiated by Pastor Sandra Griggs will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2009 at 2 p.m., with visitation afterwards at Glendale United Methodist Church, 900 Glendale Lane, Nashville, TN 37204. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Glendale United Methodist Church.
