About Room in the Inn…

Room in the Inn is a program lead by The Campus for Human Development which partners with congregations of many faiths to provide shelter and food for homeless people during the winter months. Each site offers a warm, safe place to sleep, serves three meals (dinner, breakfast and bag lunch) and then returns guests the following morning. The program is a unique way for people of faith and the greater Nashville community to become directly involved with people who are homeless and offer spiritual nourishment.

Room in the Inn at Glendale…

Glendale UMC participates in this program once a month by hosting a dozen homeless guests. A typical evening starts at about 6:00pm, when 12 men are picked up from the Campus for Human Development by church bus. The men arrive at Glendale UMC at 6:30 pm, claim a cot and place their belongings in the large room on the second floor. Then volunteers and guests gather in the fellowship hall for a meal. The guests are welcomed and introduced to the amenities of our facility. Dinner is served for guests and volunteers. After dinner, videos are provided for those who wish to watch. For those who like to talk and interact with others, there is seating around the fireplace. At about 9:30pm most of the people retire to the room on the second floor, which has 12 cots dressed with fresh linens.Breakfast is served early in the next morning at about 5:30-6:00am. Each man is given a sack lunch and then they return to the Campus for Human Development.
